Overview
We are searching for an experienced and dedicated Travel PCU/Stepdown RN to join our dynamic team for travel assignments across the U.S. This role provides a unique chance to gain valuable experience in different healthcare settings and make a meaningful impact on patient care.
Position Details:
- Primary Location: Midlothian, VA (other locations available)
- Additional Regions: Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, and Nebraska
- START: 1/6/25
- Shift: 12-hour nights, floating as needed
- Schedule: Every other weekend and major holidays required
- Unit: RN PCU/Stepdown Unit 1W, 33 beds
Patient Population and Unit Specifics:
- Patient Types: Cardiac Telemetry, Vascular, and Med-Surg; some post-Cath and post-Pacemaker patients
- Ratios: 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights (acuity dependent)*
- Lines/Drains/Devices: Includes PICCs, dialysis catheters, PEG tubes, ostomies, foley's, chest tubes, NG tubes, tube feeding (Kangaroo pumps), wound vacs
- Airway Management: Trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, Heated High Flow, High Flow, nasal cannulas (no ventilators)
- Medications & Equipment: Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Lasix, Heparin, Insulin, and PCA pumps
- Ancillary Staff: 1-3 PCA's and unit secretary depending on census and availabilityy. Plebotomy available for lab draws.
- Telemetry: Nurses required to read and verify telemetry strips once per shift in EPIC
- Uniform: Navy blue scrubs
*All listed ratios are subject to change based on staffing availability at the facility. Ratios are never guaranteed but are what the unit typically attempts to achieve with normalized staffing.
Requirements:
- Minimum 1-year experience in PCU (travel experience not required)
- Active RN license in Virginia or compact state coverage
- BLS and ACLS certifications
- Preferred: NIHSS certification, CCRN, PCCN, 6 months acute care experience, EPIC EHR familiarity, Critical Care Course
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, provide, and direct patient care and education
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments and implement and evaluate treatment plans
- Administer medications safely, consistent with facility policies
- Serve as point of contact for patient care coordination within hospital departments and family/caregivers
- Manage patients with multi-system organ failure and trauma
- Utilize the AACN Synergy Model to maintain stability across physiological, psychological, and psychosocial aspects
