RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONTROLLER:
- Establish and maintain appropriate financial controls and accountability to ensure fiscal integrity across all agency programs.
- Manage daily, monthly, and annual accounting functions, including financial reporting and HUD-required reporting.
- Analyze operating results, develop benchmarks for financial and operational measurements, and recommend procedural improvements.
- Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for enhancing procedures.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements, as well as internal policies and funding agency regulations.
- Supervise budgeting, auditing, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and general ledger accounting.
- Prepare budget recommendations, requests, and financial projections.
- Review fiscal operations for data integrity and accuracy.
- Act as a resource for management and staff, providing technical support within the area of responsibility.
- Supervise assigned staff, including hiring, performance evaluations, and adherence to policies.
- Promote a teamwork environment, coaching, motivating, and developing personnel.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE CONTROLLER:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience as a Controller or Accounting Director, with at least 5 years in affordable housing or public sector fiscal activities.
- Extensive experience in preparing financial projections and housing pro forma.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in GAAP and familiarity with UNIX-based systems required.
- Demonstrated history of successful interaction with community-based organizations, especially involving persons of low income.
